Melvyn Evans co-driven by Mark Glennerster gave the new Melvyn Evans Motorsport Hyundai i20 R5 its first competitive run on the Mewla Rally. The event provides the ideal test for the new car with its unique fast technical difficult roads that forms the road complex over the Epynt Ranges. The rally is part of the Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship which both Melvyn and Mark are contesting so the pressure was on to get a good finish, bag championship points and learn about the new car.
The rally proved particularly treacherous, with driving wind and raid for the entire length of the event, possibly the worst conditions the Mewla has ever had in its 40 year history. As well as the conditions the MEM crew had to fight several quick crews in WRC cars over the ranges.
At the end of the day, Melvyn and Mark finished 4th overall, bagged well needed championship points and the car ran faultlessly.
