Carnoustie

The Carnoustie Championship course has developed over time to become one of the world’s finest tests of golf. Carnoustie has hosted the Open Championship a remarkable 7 times, however it seems that a certain Frenchman’s performance at the Open in 1999 is what makes this course so memorable. French professional, Jean Van de Velde, needed just a double bogey 6 to win but fell apart making a 7. He then went on to lose in a playoff against Justin Leonard and Paul Lawrie, the eventual champion. As Tiger Woods truthfully admitted; “The golf course is hard, but it’s fair. I think it’s a fantastic test.”
